Disease Overview

Adrenocortical Carcinoma

Testicles Cancer is a form of cancer which originates from the testicles, the male reproduction glands which are located in the scrotum. If the Testicular cancer has not spread to other body parts then the early diagnosed cases have cure rates of 90 to 100 %. Even in the rare cases where the malignant testicles cancer has spread before being diagnosed, there is still a 80% cure rate from treatment by modern chemotherapy. Moreover, the mere detection of lumps on the testicles areas is not to be diagnosed as tumors, malignant or otherwise; the lumps may be painful but non-cancerous as they may be due to other conditions like as appendix testis, epididymal cysts, testicular microlithiasis etc.

  • Testicles Cancer is a cancer form in which cancerous cells get formed in the tissues of one or both of the testicles.
  • The risk of developing Testicles Cancer increases on certain factors such as any abnormal testicular development, family history of such a cancer etc.
  • Formation of a lump or swelling or discomfort in one or both of the testicles is considered as a probable sign of Testicles Cancer.
  • Physical examination and history, Ultrasound exam, Serum tumor marker tests like AFP, β-hCG & LDH, Radical inguinal orchiectomy and biopsy are used for the early detection and diagnosis of Testicles Cancer.
  • The treatment options and the chances of disease recovery are dependent on the stage, size and type of the tumor.

Treatment Option Overview

  • Patients suffering from Testicles Cancer have different types of treatment options.
  • Testicles Cancer is divided in 3 categories depending on the probable response of the tumors to the used treatment and the likelihood of recovery from this disease.
  • Standard treatment options for Testicles Cancer are:
    • Surgical Removal of the testicles and some of the lymph nodes by radical inguinal orchiectomy.
    • External / Internal Radiation therapy by using high-energy x-rays.
    • Chemotherapy by use of Oral Drugs or injectables
    • Watchful waiting for the appearance or change in symptoms.
    • High-dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell transplant to replace blood-forming cells which were destroyed during the cancer treatment process.
  • High-dose chemotherapy followed by stem cell transplant to replace blood-forming cells which were destroyed during the cancer treatment process.
  • Some other newer type of treatments are also being tested in clinical trials.
  • Depending on the category of this cancer, it may be beneficial for certain patients to opt for treatment through a clinical trial / cancer research process.
  • The Protocol or methodology of a clinical trial determines if the patients can opt for that clinical trial before starting their cancer treatment or during that or after that.
  • Follow-up tests and periodic check-ups should be got done to see if the disease condition has improved or if there is a recurrence or come-back of the cancer.
