Disease Overview

Adrenocortical Carcinoma

Lung Cancer is a disease in which uncontrolled abnormal cells form and grow in the lung tissues. Lung cancer is of two types - SCLC (small cell lung carcinoma) and NSCLC (non-small cell lung carcinoma). Cancers starting from the lung tissues are carcinomas that develop from the epithelial cells. A long-duration exposure to tobacco smoke is a cause in upto 80–90% of lung cancers cases with only 10–15% of other lung cancer cases being accounted by nonsmokers. Lung cancer gets developed in non-smokers due to certain genetic factors and exposure to secondhand smoke, air pollution, asbestos and gases like radon. Lung cancer should not be left untreated, otherwise by a process called metastasis this cancer can grow and spread from the lung into nearby body organ tissues too.
